MUSIC MATTERS STUDY DAY, 30th of May 2014: ‘The Local and the Global in Cultures of Popular Music’
The Music Matters Study Day is a one-day conference on the theme of ‘the Local and Global in Cultures of Popular Music‘, which is organised jointly by the IASPM Benelux, KVNM, the Arts, Culture and Media Department of the University of Groningen, Academie Minerva and the Academy for Popculture in Leeuwarden.
 
The presentations and discussions on this event will focus on the ways in which global musical/cultural developments act upon local scenes and music-making practices, and vice versa. The keynote lecture of the day will be held by Dr. Ioannis Tsioulakis and is titled “Local Intimacies and Global Fascinations: Locating Popular Music Practice”. Furthermore, the program will feature presentations and discussions with various scholars focusing on the interplay global and local influences in a variety of musical scenes, a panel discussion with local music industry professionals including Martijn van Sonderden van Noisia, an interactive music workshop with Aroma Jockey Sentman, a concert and a brief award ceremony for the best popular music thesis in the Netherlands.
 
The ticket prizes for attending the study are as follows:
Students: 5 Euros
Non-Students: 10 Euros
Members of IASPM Benelux or KVNM – free
