“On the 15th of May, SV Fabula Rasa will be organizing an evening on which we will explore the literary field hidden within the world of (popular) music. By means of short lectures given by any who is interested we will shed light on the question about the literariness (or non-literariness?) of the lyrics accompanying musical compositions. What makes a poem a poem and what distinguishes a poem from an ordinary lovesong? Of course this is only the general set-up of the evening: everyone who is interested is free to talk about whatever they want as long as it fits the main topic of “Lyrics and Literature”.
We are currently still looking for anyone who would like to share his/her thoughts with us about any topic imaginable within the field of musical lyrics. This could be an academical exposition on the boundaries of music and poetry but it also possible to just share your thoughts with us on a specific song and its lyrics and tell us what makes this (or doesn’t make this) such a great ‘literary’ text. Anyone with an affection for music and literature is most welcome to join us on the 15th of May, 19:00, in Jazzcafé ‘t Geveltje (Bloemgracht 170)! Just send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know what you would like to discuss.”
